101 Masterworks: Art and Science in the Museums and Libraries of Madrid

This new project focuses on 101 objects belonging to a number of collections in Madrid –including many not so well-known institutions.

Conceived and directed by Sandra Sáenz-López (CSIC), it features contributions from a large number of researchers and curators.

The project is located at this website: http://www.101obrasmaestras.com/en

It is organised as a series of thematically arranged itineraries – so it can be used as guide.

Each object comes with a short description (in Spanish and English), including bibliography.

The whole guide / catalogue can be downloaded as an Ebook

About Jose Ramon Marcaida

I’m a historian of science interested in the history of early modern Iberian science and its connection with Renaissance and Baroque visual culture. More generally, I’m interested in the relation between texts, images and things across the Humanities.
