I’m Jose Ramon Marcaida, a historian of science and art, working at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH), University of Cambridge.
I’ve just started working on a new ERC-funded Project, led by Dr. Alexander Marr, entitled “Genius Before Romanticism: Ingenuity in Early Modern Art and Science“. I’ll be exploring the meaning and importance of “ingenio” (and “ingenios“) in the Hispanic context. More details about my research can be found here.
I’m also interested in the history of early modern Iberian science and its connection with Renaissance and Baroque visual culture.
More generally, I’m interested in the relation between texts, images and things across the Humanities, and the development of “digital” culture.
